Aerial Short "FARMINGDALE BRIDGEPORT FARMINGDALE" Premiers on YouTube

July 5, 2010 - FARMINGDALE, NY: Flying Dog Photos's video division, Flying Dog Films, just premiered its first short film on YouTube over the July 4th Independence Weekend:

Shot with a VholdR Contour true 1080p camera mounted to the wing of a Cessna 150, the viewer is whisked on a 7-minute journey from Farmingdale Republic Airport (KFRG) on Long Island to Igor I. Sikorsky Memorial Airport (KBDR) in Bridgeport, CT and back. Ordinarily, this trip takes 25 to 40 minutes, each way, depending on the headwinds. This was shot on July 2, 2010, with winds gusting up to 20 kts. and heavy heat vectors, hence the refracting of the air in some of the shots.

Don't worry, we get you there and back safely! © 2010 Kevin Coughlin/Flying Dog Photos/Photostation Images LLC

Flying Dog Photos.com FINALLY Up & Running!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 22, 2010 --FARMINGDALE, NY--The day has finally arrived! Kevin Coughlin's aerial photography business website, FLYINGDOGPHOTOS.COM is now up and running.

"It had to be perfect", said Coughlin, "before putting it live on the web. I wanted only the best looking site available as first impressions are everything...It was WELL worth the wait."

Flying Dog Photos is the aerial photography division of Coughlin's agency, Photostation Images LLC. According to the website: "Flying Dog Photos provides state-of-the-art still and video imagery utilizing very stable high-wing, slow-flying Cessna aircraft. Whether your needs are for commercial or residential real estate, editorial, television commercials, feature films, public relations, stadiums/arenas, government contracts, landmarks, buildings, progress reports or advertising purposes, we can help you achieve breath-taking results that you and your clients can be proud of. "

Partnering up with Mr. Coughlin is fellow pilot and visual journalist/director of photography Michael S. De Mita.

DeMita's bio on the new website states: "Michael S. De Mita is an accomplished pilot and visual journalist in his own right. Having logged hundreds of hours in his own Cessna 150 Aerobat, he is well-trained and equipped to conquer any visual challenge from above. As a former videographer for CNN and Fox News in New York, Mike has won 2 Emmy Awards for his videography and directed dozens of commercials and several independent films on his own."

The new company even has its own Facebook and Twitter pages. They assure prospective clients that they can meet or exceed their aerial imaging expectation without breaking their budget. "Hiring a helicopter can cost $1,500 an hour or more." says Coughlin. "Flying Dog Photos charges only a fraction of that - as much as 75% less, so we really are a bargain. We use stable, slow-flying, high-winged Cessna 150's, 152's and 172's with great success, might I add."

Flying Dog Photos is based out of Long Island's Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY and services the Long Island, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas. Coughlin adds: "If the job is worth the travel, we will provide service for the entire North East."

Landing on Bravo 1-8: The Ice Runway in Alton Bay, NH

Last week, myself and fellow pilot/cinematographer Michael De Mita joined the Censna 150/152 club on a journey to the last Ice Airport in the United States at Lake Winnipesaukee in Alton Bay, NH. The "iceport", as it is often referred to, is also known as Seaplane Base "Bravo 1-8" (B18) in the summer time. From January 1st to March 15th, when the lake is frozen a solid two to three feet thick, a 2,600' x 82' path is plowed out to form runways 1 and 19. All planes must be off the lake by April 1st, at the latest.

The FAA approved airport is maintained by Alton Bay resident Paul La Rochelle, who volunteers as the "ground control" coordinator and monitors the Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) at the non-towered ice strip. Paul and several other volunteers plow snow off the iceway for the weekends when scores of pilots fly their Cessnas, Piper Cubs, and other fixed wing aircraft into town. The locals, often seen snowmobiling or ice-fishing in shacks on the Winnipesaukee, enjoy the boost of tourism by pilots in the off-season.

Landing on an ice runway requires the heavy use of rudder and NO BRAKES - unless one wants to skid off the runway! Mike De Mita harnessed a Sony HD "lipstick" camera to the pilot's side wing of his 1970 Cessna Aerobat 150-K. Video of our landing and take off is shown below:

Images from X-Country Flight to KMGJ, Orange County, NY

I made my first cross-country flight from KFRG in Farmingdale to Orange County Airport in Montgomery, NY on January 14, 2010. Contrary to its name, a cross-country flight is any continuous flight in excess of 75 nautical miles.

Above are some of the breath taking sites seen from approximately 3,000 feet above Westchester, Rockland, & Orange Counties.
